Cindy’s may become a Chipotle; Cable Car Wash closes; More coffee ahead
This breaking news couldn’t wait till next week
→ Drive-thru Chipotle? The fast-casual restaurant chain Chipotle Mexican Grill is asking the city of Davis for permission to demolish the former Cindy’s Restaurant at 4823 Chiles Road and build a new eatery with a drive-thru.
The request goes before the Davis Planning Commission at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, at Community Chambers, 23 Russell Blvd.
The applicant wants to raze the 2,393-square-foot building and construct a new 2,334-square-foot quick-service restaurant. It’s asking for a conditional-use permit for a drive-thru lane. Cindy’s, a coffee shop and Thai restaurant, did not have that option. Additional site improvements include new paving, landscaping, accessible EV charging stalls, lighting and a new trash enclosure, according to a city notice.
The property has been vacant since Cindy’s closed in October 2022. Davis already has a Chipotle, at 227 E St., Suite 1, downtown. Here’s the company’s website.
