→ Fire closes BBQ restaurant: An early-morning fire ripped through the rear of the original Tim’s Hawaiian BBQ on Thursday. The damage closes the business until it can be repaired.
The restaurant, at 247 Third St., is one of two Tim’s Hawaiian BBQs in Davis. The other, larger one is at 516 Second St., downtown.
Fire crews were called at 3:14 a.m. on Thursday, and remained until 6:57 a.m. Owner Tim Dai said the cause is unknown. According to my friend Lauren Keene of The Davis Enterprise, Davis police and fire departments are jointly investigating the cause. The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and no one was injured.
Most of the damage was in the rear of the building, which was an add-on from the original structure, according to on-scene cleanup crews and investigators who were there when I stopped by at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. That section included an enclosed patio.
Good Life Restoration was working Thursday morning to board up the structure and secure it with fencing.
June 14 update: Davis police say the blaze appears to have been intentionally set, Keene wrote in a follow-up report.
