Bland, sterile and generic. Looks like the food court at an indoor mall in Omaha, or Tulsa, or Peoria, or anywhere. The giant Adirondack chairs are the only thing that echoes the character of this town. I hope the bars and restaurants add some level of interest to their spaces...but I'm guessing their hands will be tied by the city's design standards. "Cool" vs. "meh..." and "meh" won.
One million dollars is a whoooooole lot of money. I wonder how much of the budget was swallowed up on the front end by the Planning Department and whoever they contracted to design the space?
Since the City of Davis will charge the restaurants outside their places of business, will the City also charge all the other businesses who use sidewalks and dining tables in previous parking spaces? I see Woodstocks have lined up tables along their building on 3rd street. Does the City charge them for this? Or is it a work-around from having to pay what is out front on G Street? I fear G Street will turn into what K Street in Sacramento became years before (and still suffers).
It’s my understanding that businesses are not allowed to put merchandise or tables on sidewalks anymore without a permit and rental fees. They have a new ordinance detailing it.
Wonderful!

Thank you. Good to know this.
