Macy’s Inc. on Thursday announced upcoming closures of 66 stores, two of them in the Sacramento region. The local stores affected are Downtown Plaza in Sacramento and Sunrise Mall in Citrus Heights.
The stores are 414 K St. in downtown Sacramento and 6000 Sunrise Mall Road in Citrus Heights. View the full list here. Closing dates have not yet been announced but clearance sales will begin this month, a Macy’s rep told the Sacramento Business Journal. After the closures, the Macy’s stores closest to Yolo County will be in Arden Fair Mall, 1701 Arden Way, Sacramento, and The Galleria at Roseville, 1197 Galleria Blvd.
These closures are a part of its “Bold New Chapter” strategy announced in February. The plan is designed to return the company to sustainable, profitable sales by closing approximately 150 underproductive stores over a three-year period and investing in 350 stores. It already invested in 50 stores and has seen positive sales boosts.
Tony Spring, chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s, said, “Closing any store is never easy, but as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy, we are closing underproductive Macy’s stores to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go–forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service.”
