The Roth Building in downtown Woodland is getting new life. A group of local investors is turning the former Sears space at 427 Main St. into Roth Event Venue.
Al Eby runs Visit Woodland, and owns the nearby Blue Wing Gallery at 405 Main St. in Woodland. He spoke to me this week about plans for the site, which is next to Father Paddy’s Irish pub at 435 Main. Here’s our conversation.
Q: What are the plans for the Roth Building?
A: We’re transforming a prominent building in historic downtown Woodland into a premier event venue that will serve as a gathering space for everything from weddings and fundraisers to concerts and cultural festivals. Our goal is to create a flexible, modern and welcoming environment that reflects Woodland’s unique charm while attracting new opportunities for entertainment and community connection.
Q: What changes are you making to the building?
A: The building is undergoing a full interior renovation, including upgraded electrical and (audio/visual) systems, a modern stage, flexible seating configurations, and restored historic architectural details. We’re also improving accessibility, installing new lighting and sound equipment, and redesigning the courtyard/outdoor venue to accommodate both indoor and outdoor gatherings.
Q: Who are the backers and people involved?
A: This is a locally driven effort. The project is privately backed by a small group of Woodland-based entrepreneurs who are passionate about downtown revitalization and cultural development. (Right now, we are choosing to just keep it at that.) We’re also working with local contractors and event planners to ensure the space reflects the spirit of Woodland.
Q: How long is it going to take? Do you have a projected timeline?
